Dust collection in California

Your facility deals with the toughest air quality rules in the country. We engineer, install, and maintain dust collection and fume extraction systems for Southern California manufacturers — from the Inland Empire to San Diego — and every one passes inspection.

California has the toughest air quality regulations in the country — and for good reason. The Inland Empire alone holds one of the densest concentrations of manufacturing, logistics, and fabrication in the western U.S. Aerospace machining along the I-15 corridor, food processing throughout San Bernardino and Riverside counties, semiconductor fabs in San Diego — the demand for compliant dust collection is enormous.

Your facility likely answers to multiple regulators at once. Our California service territory covers Southern California, where you may face the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), the California Air Resources Board (CARB), San Diego County Air Pollution Control District, and federal OSHA — sometimes all on the same project. SCAQMD is the most aggressive air quality district in the nation; rules like 1466 (toxic metals and silica) and 1403 (asbestos) create permitting and documentation requirements that do not exist in most other states. We navigate all of it.

With NFPA 660 now enforceable as of January 1, 2026, any California facility processing combustible dusts also needs proper explosion protection and dust hazard analysis (DHA) documentation on top of SCAQMD and CARB requirements.

Every engineered system we install is backed by our pass-or-free compliance guarantee. If it does not pass OSHA, SCAQMD, CARB, or NFPA inspection because of our design or installation, we fix it at no charge.

Local expertise

California air quality expertise

California does not just enforce federal OSHA — it stacks state, regional, and county regulations on top. Your Southern California facility faces more layers of regulation than any other market we serve, and the penalties for non-compliance are steep.

SCAQMD (South Coast Air Quality Management District) covers Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. Rule 1466 regulates toxic metals and crystalline silica emissions from grinding, cutting, and processing operations. Rule 1403 covers asbestos abatement. SCAQMD permitting requires detailed equipment specifications, emission calculations, and often source testing after installation — we handle all of this documentation.

CARB (California Air Resources Board) enforces statewide Airborne Toxic Control Measures (ATCMs) for hexavalent chromium, diesel particulate matter, and other designated toxic substances. If your operation welds stainless steel or exotic alloys, you have to demonstrate hex chrome capture at the source.

From a climate perspective, Southern California’s mild temperatures make system design straightforward compared to the extreme heat of Arizona or the altitude challenges of New Mexico. The dense urban surroundings, though, mean exhaust permitting is much more restrictive — many SCAQMD jurisdictions require return-air systems that recirculate filtered air back into the facility rather than exhausting outdoors. We engineer for that constraint from the start.
