An Air King ambient air cleaner hangs overhead, pulls that room air through filters, and puts it back, all shift. Pick your Air King by how much air you need to move
You size an ambient air cleaner to the room, not to a machine. Take your length times width times ceiling height, multiply by the air changes you want each hour, and divide by 60. That gives you the CFM you need. Use 8 air changes for light to moderate smoke and 10 for heavy smoke. Divide that number by the CFM of a unit below and round up.
If you only need to clean part of a building, size that portion and close it off with a curtain so the units are not trying to clean the whole plant. Our ambient unit calculator runs the math for you, for planning only.

Air King M-25 Series: 1,500 to 2,500 CFM
Your general shop floor. The M-25 pulls in one end and pushes out the other, so you can aim clean air down a bay and set up a circulation pattern across the room. The Wrap-A-Round versions add a fiber prefilter cage around the inlet, hinged left or right.

Air King M-30 Series: 2,300 to 3,000 CFM
Your open floor areas. The standard M-30 uses a T-pattern airflow, with an inlet on both ends and the exhaust in the middle, which suits a unit hung in the center of a space.

Which filter to run. The M-25 and M-30 ship with a 65% bag filter. We recommend stepping up to the 95% bag filters, which you can order as a factory build option so your unit arrives with them installed. The M-11 already ships with a 95% bag. Because the higher efficiency bags add resistance, round your unit count up, not down.

What an ambient air cleaner will and will not do
An ambient unit cleans the haze that hangs in a room. It does that job well, and there is no ductwork to buy. It is not a substitute for catching smoke or dust where it is made.
- Welding at fixed stations. Capture the plume first with source capture fume arms, then use ambient units for what drifts. Our welding and metal fabrication page shows how the two work together
- Work that moves around the floor. A mobile fume extractor follows the job

When an Air King is not right for you
- You need to collect dust off a machine. A saw, sander or grinder needs a dust collector pulling at the tool. An ambient unit only cleans what escapes
- Your dust is combustible. An ambient air cleaner is not a combustible dust collection system. Always have your dust checked for combustibility. Our KSt values page lists general values
- You need to meet an exposure limit at the operator. That takes capture at the source, sized to the process
- You are looking for a building HVAC filter. These are stand alone shop air cleaners with their own filters
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the Air King M-11, M-25 and M-30?
Airflow and cabinet size. The standard M-11 moves 1,100 CFM, the M-25 moves 2,500 CFM and the M-30 moves 3,000 CFM. Each series also comes in HEPA, charcoal and gas phase versions, and those move less air because the added filters add resistance.

Which Air King filter fits my unit?
Filters are sized by series. M-11 units take 15 x 20 in. prefilters and 20 x 15 in. bag filters. M-25 and M-30 units take 24 x 24 in. prefilters and bag filters, in different depths. The table on this page lists every filter with the series it fits.
Is freight included in the Air King price?
Freight on the air cleaners is calculated at checkout, so you see the charge before you pay. The price on the product page is the price of the unit.
Does an ambient air cleaner replace source capture?
No. An ambient air cleaner cleans the room air that source capture misses. If a welder or grinder is breathing the plume at the work, capture it there first with a fume arm or downdraft table, then use ambient units for the haze that is left.
Is it Air King or Air King Filtration?
Air King Filtration is the maker, and most people just say Air King. The M-11, M-25 and M-30 ambient air cleaners on this page are the same units either way.
