What the Salt Lake Valley demands of a collector
You are working at altitude, and it changes the whole calculation. The Salt Lake Valley floor sits around 4,200 to 4,500 ft, so the air is roughly 15% thinner than at sea level. A fan rated for 10,000 CFM at sea level only moves about 8,500 actual CFM here. Fan and motor selection, ductwork pressure-drop math, and explosion-vent sizing all have to be corrected for altitude — which is exactly what out-of-state vendors miss, leaving valley shops with systems that quietly underperform from day one. We correct for it before the first line is drawn.
The second factor is the inversion. When cold air settles into the valley in January and February, it traps particulate against the valley floor, and Utah DAQ enforcement of opacity and visibility standards gets noticeably more aggressive during those weeks. We handle DAQ Approval Orders and emission calculations as part of every engineered system, so your collector is documented to pass when the valley is under scrutiny.
Third, and specific to Utah: combustible organic powders. The valley’s supplement and nutraceutical density means a lot of operations are handling fine botanical, protein, and vitamin powders that most people never think of as an explosion hazard — but many carry a real KSt value.
