DustHog VP · Portable with Swing Arm
DustHog VP Portable Dust Collector
Your work does not stay in one bay. The VP is the V-Series on casters with an industrial swing arm, so the capture goes to the weldment instead of the weldment coming to the capture. You pick the reach and the diameter of that arm the same way you pick the motor and the voltage.
Your VP collector, its arm, ProTura cartridges, and replacement parts ship from us anywhere in the country, with one stated price on your quote.
Six choices make a VP
You are picking airflow, motor, voltage, cartridge media, after-filter, and the arm. DustHog gives the arm its own part number, so reach and diameter get chosen on the quote the same way voltage does, and you see all six on one sheet before anything is ordered.
What it is
The collector goes to the work
Same cartridge, same automatic pulse cleaning, and same controls as the VB bench and the VF fixed unit, mounted on casters with a swing arm on top. When the job is a weldment on a table today and a fixture across the shop tomorrow, this is the build that follows it.
The trade against a fixed unit is that portability depends on somebody actually moving it. A cart that lives in one corner because nobody repositions it is a fixed unit that cost more, so it is worth being honest about how the shop really works before choosing this over the VF.
Cleaning runs on compressed air at 90 to 100 PSI. DustHog’s auto-cleaning function pulses the cartridge after the unit is shut off, so the filter starts each shift clean.

The two builds
| Model | Airflow | Motor | Power | Filter area | Sound | After-filter |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VP-0750 | 750 CFM | 1 HP | 115/1/60 or 230/1/60 | 141 sq ft | 74 to 79 dBA | Not offered |
| VP-1500 | 1,500 CFM | 3 HP | 230/3/60 or 460/3/60 | 283 sq ft | 81 dBA | Carbon or HEPA |
Power decides more than airflow does. The 750 is 1 HP on single phase and needs no starter, which matters on a cart you want to plug in anywhere. The 1,500 is 3 HP on three phase with the starter included, and it is the only one that takes a carbon or HEPA after-filter. A portable that has to reach a three phase outlet is less portable than it looks on paper.
Arm options
What you are choosing when you pick the reach
XA swing arms come in two diameters and three lengths, and the hood can carry its own controls. Longer reach means fewer times somebody has to move the cart. A bigger diameter moves more air at the hood. Both add cost, and reach is the one people under-order and wish they had back.
| Choice | Options | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Diameter | 6 in. or 8 in. | How much air moves at the hood |
| Reach | 7, 10, or 12 ft | How far the work can sit from the cart |
| Hood controls | Blower switch · switch and light · switch, light, and arc sensor | How the collector gets turned on |
| No arm | Duct the VP to a hood you already have | Right when the capture point is already built |
The arc sensor version is worth asking about on a welding cart. It starts the collector when the arc strikes instead of relying on the operator to remember, and on a machine that moves bay to bay that matters more than it does on a unit somebody walks past all day.
DustHog publishes no airflow rating for an individual arm. Flow at the hood comes from the collector behind it and the length and diameter you choose, which is why arm selection and collector selection are one decision rather than two. See source capture arms for the wider range, including wall mount and telescopic versions that pair with fixed collectors.
How it is ordered
Every VP is a part number you configure
DustHog builds the model code left to right, and each character is one choice. Reading it means you can confirm exactly what is coming before it ships.
| Position | Choices |
|---|---|
| Model | P for portable |
| Airflow | 0750 or 1500 |
| Cleaning | C, automatic compressed air pulse |
| Motor | 1 for 1 HP, 3 for 3 HP |
| Voltage | 1 is 115/1/60, 2 is 230/1/60, 3 is 230/3/60, 4 is 460/3/60 |
| Starter | U included, X not required |
| Main filter | N for ProTura Nanofiber, F for ProTura FR Nanofiber |
| After-filter | N none, C carbon, H HEPA |
VP-1500C34UNH reads as a portable, 1,500 CFM, automatic pulse cleaning, 3 HP, 460/3/60, starter included, ProTura Nanofiber cartridge, HEPA after-filter. The arm you choose carries its own part number on the same quote.
Media
Two cartridges, and when the fire retardant one earns its cost
DustHog certifies the Advanced Nanofiber cartridge at MERV 15 and states it lasts 50% longer than an 80/20 filter, with effective sub-micron particle removal.
You order it as ProTura Nanofiber or ProTura FR Nanofiber. On a welding cart the fire retardant media is the one to specify, because a swing arm hood sits close to the arc and pulls sparks straight into the duct.
On the 1,500 you can add a carbon after-filter for odor or a HEPA after-filter where the discharge returns to an occupied room.
What it is built to capture
Processes DustHog names
Metalworking, buffing, grinding, polishing, blending, filling, material handling, packaging, screening, weighing, finishing, sanding, and sawing.
The portable build lands most often in fab shops and school shops, where the work changes shape week to week and no two jobs sit in the same spot.

Fit check
When the VP is not right for you
Your emissions are explosive
DustHog’s V-Series manual instructs plainly that these units are not to collect emissions which are explosive. If your material is or might be combustible, this is not the machine, and it is not a decision to make from a product page. Start on the combustible dust side instead.
Nobody is actually going to move it
If the cart will live in one spot, you are paying for casters and an arm you do not need. The VF ducted to a fixed hood is usually the better buy, and it is the only build offered at 750 CFM with a 3 HP motor if you need an after-filter at the lower airflow.
The work sits at a bench
A swing arm above a table is always in somebody’s way. If the operator works seated or at a fixed surface, the VB downdraft bench pulls the dust down and away without an arm to reposition.
Your contaminant is oil mist or coolant
A dry cartridge loads up fast on liquid aerosol. That is mist collector work, and DustHog’s portable answer there is the PCN. See SmogHog mist collectors.
VP questions
What are the arm options?
Six inch or eight inch diameter, at 7, 10, or 12 feet of reach, with a hood control choice of a blower switch, a switch and light kit, or a switch, light, and arc sensor kit. DustHog gives the arm its own part number, so it is a line you choose rather than something fixed for you, and every VP quote we build carries that choice on it.
Six inch or eight inch arm?
The eight inch moves more air at the hood, which is what you want on heavier smoke or a wider capture zone. The six inch is lighter to reposition and easier to live with on a cart that moves several times a shift. Tell us what you are welding or cutting and we will size the arm against the collector rather than guessing at the hood.
VP-0750 or VP-1500?
Power usually decides it before airflow does. The 750 is 1 HP on single phase and needs no starter, which keeps the cart genuinely portable. The 1,500 is 3 HP on three phase with the starter included, moves twice the air, and is the only one that takes a carbon or HEPA after-filter.
What motor sizes does the V-Series come in?
One and three horsepower, across the whole series. There is nothing in between.
Does it need compressed air?
Yes. The automatic pulse cleaning system needs 90 to 100 PSI, which is worth thinking about on a unit meant to move around. If it has to reach both a compressor drop and the right outlet, its useful range is smaller than the casters suggest.
Can I run it on combustible dust?
No. DustHog’s manual states these units are not to collect explosive emissions. If there is any chance your material is combustible, the right first step is testing your dust, not buying a cart.
Tell us the work, the reach, and the power you have
Those three answers pick the model, the arm, and the voltage. You get back a configured part number with your arm choice on it, so the number you see is the number you pay.
